UNIT 2-3, FORMERLY UNIT # 6
Tuesday, January 1, 1963

One of our former fire trucks, the 1963 International has recently been featured in a new book titled, Anderson - Baltimore Fire Apparatus, published by Charles F. Underwood of the F.L. Anderson Company. This is a great book to read and features beautiful color photos of several pieces of unique fire apparatus from the Del-Mar-Va Peninsula and surrounding areas, including three of our International pumper.

This unit was the first "brand new" fire engine ever purchased by the Greenbackville V.F.D. The International Loadstar, Model 1700 chassis was purchased from Parks Motors, Co. of Parksley, Virginia. F.L. Anderson Company of Baltimore, Maryland installed the pump, body and water tank. It was delivered in 1963 and was originally equipped with a 200 gallon per minute pump, and 1000 gallon tank. It was designated "Unit 6" for several years, however it was re-numbered "Unit 2-3" after the county-wide numbering system was implemented. In 1975, a 750 g.p.m. Barton American front-mount pump was installed by F.L. Anderson, which greatly enhanced the unit's firefighting capabilities. The beloved pumper faithfully served Greenbackville for over 26 years as the 1st due unit and was a favorite among many members. It was sadly considered surplus by the department after the 1989 Pierce Lance engine was delivered, and was sold to a private dealership in Beebe, Arkansas, during late December.

Listed below are the specifications of old Unit 2-3, when sold in 1989:
